A home artist residency experience
Danube Bend Home artist Residency, Hungary
This is an invitation to a home-based artist residency. I am offering my small studio space in my home in the Danube Bend, 40 km from Budapest, surrounded by hills, forests, and the river.
The Danube Bend area is known for its open-minded, culturally and artistically sensitive residents who value closeness to nature and a strong sense of community. The region consists of 6–8 small villages, each about 4–8 km apart, where you can still experience true “village life”: people know one another, help each other out, talk, meet regularly, and organise voluntary, cooperative work gatherings that often turn into relaxed picnics by the end of the day.
The Home
We are extremely fortunate to have vibrant cultural hubs in each village, including museums, cafés, terrace bars, and excellent local food spots.
During your stay as an artist-in-residence, you will have access to the studio room, which also serves as your sleeping space, as well as the shared areas of the house: the kitchen, living room, terrace, and garden.
Meals are available for a reasonable price, allowing you to fully focus on your artistic work. I am also happy to organise one or two workshops in a local cultural space and/or an exhibition, depending on your artistic practice, process, and possibilities. These details will be discussed once your application is accepted.
I am also the founder of Camino Art House in Gran Canaria, and I enjoy connecting with talented artists and offering them a safe and inspiring space there as well.
I hope to connect with thoughtful and dedicated artists so we can inspire one another while providing a calm, tranquil environment with the opportunity to experience the lively local atmosphere of the surrounding communities.
How it Works
The maximum length of one residency stay is 10 days, with a minimum stay of 6 days/nights.
To ensure smooth organisation—including meals, workshops, and potential exhibition opportunities—applications must be submitted at least four weeks before the desired residency period.
I will be available during your stay – besides my regular personal life matters, I am also happy to give you space. This agreement is also part of the personal planning after your application is accepted.
Some special notes you need to accept in case you become a resident:
You arrived to a unique and special place, that is actually a real home of another person, so please treat it in a special way!
There are a few things that I ask of you (in other places they call this „house rules”):
1. Please keep yourself and your environment clean!
2. Don’t disturb others!
3. Be responsible for your actions, and behave as it is normally expected:
– be kind, polite and respectful for other beings and your environment
– don’t harm other beings or nature
– use your manners
– clean up after yourself
– please smoke only outside
4. Please note that if you don’t or can’t follow the suggestions above, I will ask you to leave the house immediately without a refund.

Price
6 nights: 120€ (every additional nights are +20€)
10 nights: 180€
Food: brakfast (4€) lunch (5€) dinner (6€)
The cost/budget of possible workshops/exhibitions is subject to discussion depending on needs and possibilities

If my time allows, I can also show you around in the area, or enjoy some creative sessions together.
How to apply?
If you are interested in the program, please send your application to caminoart@caminoart.org and include the following details:
- introduce yourself and your art work
- attach some references, portfolio, links to your websites or previous art events/exhibitions/etc where you participated
- describe your plan/program for the time that you want to spend in this residency
- your confirmation and consent that you have read the “house rules” and you agree that, in case your application is selected
A home artist residency offers something that many larger, institutional residencies cannot:
a sense of belonging.
By living in a home rather than a dedicated residency facility, artists often experience a more personal, slower, and less formal environment that can support creativity in different ways. The atmosphere is often:
- Intimate rather than institutional.
- Flexible, with fewer formal requirements.
- Focused on reflection, experimentation, and exchange.
- Embedded in the local community or landscape.

Your Host
My name is Bea, and I am 47 years old. I started Camino Art House 10 years ago, and from the very first moment, it became an amazing playground for me and for many others who encountered this project. Camino allowed me to explore many forms of art: visual arts, theatre, voice, movement, sculpting, performance, music, rhythm, writing, and poetry. But not only that: it also became a powerful space for self-discovery and self-development, mostly through art. Last year I felt the need to be closer to my friends, and finally I moved my base back to Hungary, into this magical community by the Danube River. At the moment I live in this little cottage, but I keep running the art house on Gran Canaria. I am like a migratory bird: my journey would be meaningless without the two homes that anchor it.
