Our dinner is more than a family dinner

We are often mentioned by our significant dinners. Here you can get to know why they are so special and what is what is behind them.

Cooking and serving food is our lovely Volunteers’ project. The donation they receive for the food is used for the shopping of the next meals, and maybe for some extra goods that they need for themselves. So preparing and offering nice food is essential for them as this is the meal they eat as well. Some of the volunteers didn’t know how to cook for many people when they arrived to Camino. But during their time there they have learnt it and developed a good skill to accommodate large meals for the joy of everyone. You will be able to read of our our best recipes in the Camino Book.

Why vegan?

Vegan meals are suitable for everyone with all kinds of diet. Meat eaters also can eat vegan, and they actually enjoy to experience the positive side of it in Camino. Vegan cooking requires less energy to use (cooking, storing), and means a cleaner envioronment in the kitchen: we don’t need special fridges for keeping the meat fresh, we don’t deal with different bacterias that might come from flesh or blood. We do offer vegetrian options time to time (cheese or eggs on the side) and we are happy to provide gluten free options as well.

Win-win-win

We started a wonderful co-operation with the Eco garden in our neighbourhood. Eco Huerta is only 900 meters from us. every week once or twice our volunteers go over and help out in their large garden and for their help they receive excellent vegetables and fruits. This exchange works very well as not only the eco garden and the volunteers win, but everyone in Camino Art House who joins in for dinner. Isn’t it a great collaboration?

special meals

We keep the tradition to organize unique dinners for notable events. Christmas is one of the gatherings that we always celebrate with a large, beautiful table (and multi-course of vegan food and sweets). We also prepare lots of food for new year’s eve that we serve as a buffet so we can enjoy it all night through out our party. Time to time we cook on open fire and serve the food from the large hot pot in the heart of our land.

Food from the land

We are very lucky with the nature around us. We are surrounded by abundant of edible wild plants. Depending on the season we can enjoy wormwood, wild levander, wild salvia, alfalfa, prickly pear leaves and fruits, nettles, blackberries, nasturtiums, eucalyptus, wild green peas. Beside all these we grow our own herbs, and we take care of numerous aloe vera plants. When you walk around in the land you will find many orange, lemon, nispero and almond trees as well.

why is it sustainable and logical and eco-logical to eat with us?

You can skip shopping and cooking

you can save time and money and support a good cause. You will not have leftovers, and you can be sure we compost and recycle ours. You will produce less trash (imagine if every our guests arrives with a bag of food, packed in many layers of bags and plastic boxes. that will add up a loooooot of trash). Cooking one large meal for everyone is also much more economical than cooking many meals one by one: uses less energy (and power: gas, electricity, water), time. So you can use your energy and your time for something else on your holiday.

Vegan is kind for Earth

Plant-based diets in comparison to meat-based diets are more sustainable because they use substantially less natural resources and are less taxing on the environment.

You can connect

During dinner time you will probably have some nice conversations. You might get some tips on what to see on the island, how to get there, or you might even find a ride. You can easily find yourself in a chat that will lead you somewhere good and useful in your future.
